Heart Eyes Irish Connection?
Hollywood Valentine slasher-rom-com, Heart Eyes open this Friday 14th February in cinemas around the UK & Ireland, but did you know there's a slightly obscure Irish connection to the emoji-faced horror flick?
As two of the main characters Ally (played by Olivia Holt) and Jay (Mason Gooding) sit awkwardly in a cab, a dreamy 80s love song twinkles in the background. The song is called "Are You In Love?" and it was written and performed by Drogehda native Dermot "Spyder" Sympson. With a shock of quintessentially 80s blonde hair and seductive voice Dermot was a beloved pop star on the rise, when in 1987 a car crash on the way home from a gig caused injuries from which he never recovered. Tragically, he passed away just a few years later in 1992 at the age of only 27.
You can hear the song in full on YouTube where he performed it live on Irish tv and on streaming platforms from the following link: https://lnk.fuga.com/areyouinlove
"Heart Eyes" is a Screen Gems / Spyglass Media Group production and is showing in cinemas from this Friday 14th February.
